Summary
The islands have an estimated potential of more than one lakh (100,000) tonnes of fish annually, including about 94,000 tonnes of tuna, but current harvest is only around 15,000 tonnes.
The government will fund deep‑sea fishing vessels, safety equipment, seaweed cultivation, and fish‑based tourism, alongside digital authorisation systems and vessel‑monitoring technology.
The initiative aims to increase incomes, create modern science‑driven fishing jobs, and ensure responsible harvesting in the Exclusive Economic Zone and high seas.
