Sensors will be set up in Etah, Meerut, Balrampur, Lakhimpur Kheri and Sonbhadra.
They will monitor lightning activity and issue alerts to local authorities and the public.
The initiative is part of the state's disaster management strategy to prevent loss of life.
A budget of about 1.33 crore Indian rupees is allocated for the Sonbhadra village network.
The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology is partnering on the project, which will also cover 32 villages in Sonbhadra.
The system aims to reduce injuries and deaths by allowing farmers, laborers and residents to take safety measures before lightning strikes.
