Summary
The money originates from companies that have used Indian agricultural resources such as maize, rice, pearl millet and cotton for research and commercial purposes.
Each state’s allocation was calculated proportionally to the cultivated area of the relevant crops, using official agricultural statistics.
The funds must be spent on biodiversity documentation, conservation, sustainable use, research, capacity building and improving local community livelihoods.
This distribution precedes the upcoming Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity in Armenia.
